"LIES, LIES, LIES: a mixtape" by Edie Adams

“All girls to the front! I’m not kidding!” - Kathleen Hanna

For my playlist this month, I wanted to make the ultimate girl power mixtape, one that featured exclusively female-identifying musicians across all genres and decades. I especially liked the idea of focusing on artists who, upon being scorned by misogynistic attitudes, idiot boyfriends, or narrow definitions of femininity, used their music as a blazing middle finger to their oppressors. What I like in particular about these tracks is that, in lieu of being defeatist or sad, the music functions as a form of empowerment for both the artist and the listener. And if that’s not rad, I don’t know what is.

Happy listening,

Edie
