"love poem for an astronomer" by Eva Valenti
the moon burned through a jungle of sky
through an eternity of space, and i
was unwilling, or unable, to confront it
but your scientifically impossible eyes
dared to read light that no man had tread before
and sew it into meaning
a small step in your exploration of the astros but
one great leap for love poetry:
you gave me the moon in a pearl earring
it wore itself glowing next to my mind
brutally silver, the impossible eye
of human bewilderment
