THE PROCESS OF WEEDING OUT: "Beauty" with Ali Marks

Beauty has always been a hard subject for me. Beauty is strange, esoteric, and hard to grasp when I don’t always feel like I fit in my body; when I don’t really know what body I want to be in. Last year, cemented to my bed, hoping for someway to get up, my body just hurt and my beauty, my happiness, was hidden behind bipolar madness and gender dysphoria. During this time the only albums I could listen to were haunting, tense, and ethereal. Music that sent chills down my spine from its strange beauty. It was this music that helped me get up in the morning (or the afternoon, really) and face another day. I hope that by sharing my list, I can help someone else get through the days when nothing seems to matter, including oneself.

Majical Cloudz – Impersonator

The xx – XX

Purity Ring – Fine Shrines

Torres – Torres

M83 – Saturdays=Youth

Sharon Van Etten – Epic

Chelsea Wolfe – Unknown Rooms: A Collection of Acoustic Songs

Mac Demarco – 2

The Cranberries – Everyone Else is Doing it, So Why Can’t We
